GAC announced the opening of its INPOW battery-pack plant in Chonburi, Thailand and the first pack off its line on October 29, 2026. The company reported a local material/component procurement share of 78.85%. This company-reported figure does not quantify opportunities available to Korean suppliers. Pack production should not be described as cell manufacturing.

Compare imports with the local supply chain’s total cost
The implications below are BIZPECTRA analysis. Korean exports compete with local pricing, shorter transport, inventory availability and change-response capability. Separate material, fabrication, plating, inspection and logistics at the customer-delivery level. Confirm outsourced processes rather than assuming localization means every demanding process is completed locally.
Establish purchasing and qualification routes first
Identify which terminals, connectors and metal parts are externally sourced and who controls procurement. Obtain drawings, annual volumes, inspection, traceability and change-control requirements before agreeing samples and approvals. A plant opening is neither a Korean supplier order nor automatic qualification of an existing part. Local purchasing shares alone do not establish customs origin or tariff entitlement.
Compare Korean production and local cooperation by volume
Korean sampling and precision processing combined with partner-managed local stock, inspection and support is one model to evaluate. Validate customer approval, actual volume and partner capability before comparing it with integrated exports. Match won manufacturing costs, dollar-linked materials and baht receipts/local costs by payment date. Include split deliveries, urgent samples and reinspection.
Localization response checklist
- Confirm outsourced items and purchasing authority.
- Obtain substrate, plated area, thickness, tests and annual volume.
- Agree sample and process-change approval requirements.
- Compare landed costs for integrated Korean production and local cooperation.
- Calculate won/dollar/baht settlement and inventory exposure.
- Assign responsibility for local stock, inspection and customer support.
BIZPECTRA assessment
Precision, repeatable quality and responsive engineering changes can support Korean suppliers’ competitiveness alongside local prices. Choose a supply model using actual outsourced specifications, volumes and qualification requirements.
CHEMNEX connects material and precision surface-treatment consultations for battery-pack-related terminals, connectors and metal components. Assess R2R/Spot Plating, sample lead times and repeatable quality, comparing total costs for Korean production and local cooperation. This does not claim a customer approval or awarded order.
